ReplyDeleteI had a couple of thoughts - it looks a little like CRULL SPEC with that bottom of the B "distressed." I have to say, I prefer the back image to the one for the front, but I'm sure that is just a personal style thang.
Hm... I think you're on to something with the "CRULL" spec comment; I'll have to see what I can figure out on that front, but unfortunately I have no artistic talent of my own.
ReplyDeleteThe back image is also not likely to remain even on the back cover; I have tried and tried to contact the photographer for a higher resolution image suitable for full-size print but have been unsuccessful.
So it's back to the drawing board on a couple of things. Thanks again for the comments!

I can see how it could be read that way. I didn't see it that way on first read, but that could be because I knew the title before seeing it in that font. In any case I don't think it would take much effort to make it more readable. I think it comes off as CRULL SPEC for two reasons:
1. The bottom of the "B" is kind of faded, like a vintage T-shirt. Which is a little bit odd, since none of the other letters are at all faded. This makes it look like an "R". If you filled in the "B" more completely then it would like a "B". And since no English words I know of start with "CB" it would easier to discard the curlicue at the beginning as a serif instead of a "C".
2. I don't really have a problem with the serif at the beginning, but if it is deemed hard to read, just prune it back a bit. Cut it off at the point where it's vertical before it curves back on itself. Then it won't look like any letter.
